Jewelry....it's the language of women, am I right? We girls love our jewels....they sparkle, they make us feel pretty, they speak to our personal style and aesthetic. And more importantly, these little accessories often tell a story about who we are, the personal experiences we’ve had and what we believe in. I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a great piece of jewelry (and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone), but even more for a great mission....so when you combine the two, I’m totally hooked. And that’s where Liberti comes in. If you’re not familiar with this brand, you really need to be.

Here’s the scoop: Liberti is a local Denver-based company that makes beautiful jewelry with a beautiful mission and social impact. Did you know that the majority of the world’s refugees are living in refugee settlement camps and that less than one percent of them are able to make it out of these camps to gain citizenship to a new country and start rebuilding their lives? I certainly didn’t before learning about Liberti’s mission.

Liberti’s aim is to employ and empower legal American refugees, providing them with job-training and career-building opportunities. Sounds pretty great already, right? But not only that, their pieces are uniquely-designed, American-made, and high-quality, using only pure and ethically-sourced materials (even better!). I absolutely encourage you to check out their website at http://www.libertiusa.com to make a purchase and read more about their Less Than 1% Collection (http://www.libertiusa.com/pages/less-than-1), their Apprenticeship Program for resettled refugees (http://www.libertiusa.com/pages/liberti-apprenticeship-program) and descriptions of each of their unique designs....They are truly making a difference and creating gorgeous conversation-starting pieces in the process. I love that.

So let’s talk about the design (because you know I’m big on unique design elements). I’m loving how Liberti has taken the less-than symbol (you know the one...the V turned on its side....or the open crocodile mouth as I learned it in school....am I aging myself??) and incorporated it into so many of their pieces like the Liberti Love Lariat (http://www.libertiusa.com/collections/1-love-collection/products/liberti-love-lariat), which is not only symbolic, but so dainty and pretty too. Mine will definitely be on repeat.

And then there’s the Liberti Coordinate Ring (http://www.libertiusa.com/collections/latest-products/products/liberti-coordinate-ring), which is engraved with the actual coordinates of a real refugee camp, formerly home to some of Liberti’s creators, to remind the wearer that these camps are real and are full of real people just wanting to make a better life for themselves and their families.

But although they incorporate interesting design elements, there is also a beautiful simplicity to these pieces that makes them so easy to style (they literally go with everything). You can wear each alone or pair them with other jewelry....I love wearing multiple rings or layering a simple gold choker with the lariat.

Here’s the bottom line: If you’re like me, it’s really easy to get caught up in our own stuff....our daily routines, our first-world problems, the stuff that feels close to home for us. So Liberti is a great reminder for me to look outside of myself and my circumstances and look for ways to make a difference in the lives of others. And of course, it never hurts to wear lovely jewelry while doing so.
