It's New to Me - New Goals, Possibilities and Hopes for 2018
I'm not really one for resolutions, but with a brand new year staring me down, I've been thinking a lot about the past 365 days, the goals I had for 2017 and the goals and changes I want to make in my next trip around the sun.
If I'm really honest, I pretty much completely failed when it came to my 2017 goal of being on my phone less....if anything I was on it more, much to the chagrin of my family. So this year, my number one goal is to spend more quality, phone-free time with my hubs and kids because you just can't get that time back. And I know looking back at my life, I'm not going to regret the time I missed on Instagram (as fun as it can be), but I will regret the time and experiences I missed out on with my family. So that's the big one: More time with friends and family, less stressing about social media, missed calls, email responses....you get the picture. Of course, that's not to say that I don't love what I do (because I really do!) but I just don't want it to get in the way of real face-to-face interaction.
Another goal of mine is to travel more. I'll admit I'm kind of a homebody and when it comes to spending money, I tend to overspend on "stuff" and not put nearly enough resources or time into travel and experiences. And that's really where memories are made. Again, I don't think I'll look back and regret the things I didn't buy, but chances are I will wish I had spent more time and money on seeing the world and sharing these experiences with my family and friends. So my goal is more travel in 2018, both in the form of family trips (London and New York are at the top of my list at the moment....my son really wants to see Big Ben and I would love to take my daughter to see Les Miserables on Broadway) as well as girls' trips with my amazing group of girlfriends who I couldn't be more grateful for!
I know a lot of people make weight-loss resolutions when a new year rolls around, but rather than that, I just want to take better care of my body and focus on fitness and health. If you know me at all (or have watched my IG stories) you know that I have a tiny (okay...huge.) sugar addiction. And while there's nothing wrong with a little sweet fix every now and then, I tend to go a little overboard. So my goal this year is to cut back on the sugar a bit, eat a little cleaner and really allow my body to be in it's healthiest state.
I also want to challenge my mind and learn something new this year. Not totally sure yet what form that will take, whether it will be learning Photoshop or basic computer coding or taking a sewing or dance class, but I know I need to challenge myself more and be more curious. I will absolutely admit that I have a tendency towards laziness so I want to nip that in the bud and do something new or creative in the coming year. (If you all have any suggestions of cool classes or learning opportunities, I'd love to hear 'em!)
Another goal that I fell short on last year was being more intentional (in pretty much every area of my life) so I'm reinstating that one as well. I want to be intentional and generous with my time, money, relationships, listening skills, activities etc. I want to stop letting things just happen, but rather put time, thought and intent into everything I do.
Finally, in 2018 I'm going to try my very best to accept myself more, flaws and all. As a lifelong perfectionist, I tend to be very self-critical and overly concerned about what others think of me (which can be a pretty tough thing in this blogger/social media world). And it's exhausting If I'm honest. So this goal is a big one and very likely the one that will be the hardest to achieve. But I'm willing to try. And I think that focusing on these other goals for 2018 will be a big start in self-acceptance too. As my mom always says, when you take the focus off yourself and put it on others, you're just happier. So I think family, friends, travel, and learning new things is a great start to becoming a woman comfortable and happy in her own skin.
I have to say that with the goals ahead (and even with the work it will take to achieve them), I am super excited about 2018. A brand new year holds so much possibility and promise and I am so grateful for that. I'm also so thankful to be able to do something I love and for your support of my blog, social media and passions....thank you so much for allowing me to share them with you! I'm excited to create more fun content in the new year (look for some lifestyle content ahead as well as fashion) and if you have any suggestions for content you'd like to see, please let me know! And I'd love to know some of your goals or resolutions for the new year too so drop a comment and share.
Wishing you an incredible 2018!
