How to Style a Slip Dress

They're not just for the bedroom anymore.....Yes, the slip dress definitely made a comeback late last year (ones of those 90's trends like the choker that I personally was happy to see re-emerge) and it doesn't seem like they're going away anytime soon (hooray for that!). So I thought I'd do a little post on some fun ways to style this very easy and versatile kind of dress.

First of all, there are lots of different varieties of the slip dress out there now....some are just simple rayon or cotton spaghetti strap numbers while others are silky and lingerie-like and yet others have lace or other embellishments added for extra detail. I personally love ones like this little DVF beauty that I picked up at A-Line Boutique here in Denver that boast a fun print, flattering fit and lace detailing. And I think any slip dress option would be perfect for a Valentine's look as the whole vibe is sweet and feminine, while still being a little edgy and sassy too.

And while I purchased this dress with Valentine's Day and a more dressed up look in mind, I realized it really could be styled so many different ways, making it perfect for pretty much any occasion!

So first I wanted to try out the ultra-feminine dressed up look that would be perfect for a date night or Valentine's dinner, so I started by styling it with strappy bow-embellished heels and a furry cardigan. And not gonna lie, I felt kinda sexy in this simple but standout look. I think the hubs would approve!

Next I decided to dress it down just a bit to create a girl's night or casual party vibe (or maybe even a trendy work look depending on your place of business). So I threw on a white tee under the dress (you could also do a black tee or possibly even a cute coordinating striped number) and paired with mod block heel ankle boots (that were another amazing Nordstrom Rack find), a black leather moto jacket and choker.

Finally, I wanted to create a really dressed-down, comfy, casual look that would work for a coffee date, picking up the kids from school or just running errands around town. So I stuck with the white tee but this time paired it with my Adidas Superstars and AG Denim Jacket...super easy, comfy and cool.

And after styling all three ways, it's so hard to pick a fave cause I really love them all.....and don't be surprised if you see me in one (or all) of these looks at some point! PS. if you don't have a slip dress in your closet, I totally recommend getting one (preferably in time for Valentine's day)! I've linked my Diane Von Furstenburg slip dress (just in a different print) and I've included a few other options here, here, here and here
(different styles and price points). Plus I've linked my other outfit details below.

Do you have a favorite piece that you style lots of different ways? I'd love to hear! And please let me know if you liked this post and would like to see more posts about ways to style other types of pieces.....would love your feedback!

Have an amazing week!
